Ed Stelmach
Edward Michael "Ed" Stelmach, MLA (; born May 11, 1951) is the 13th and current Premier of Alberta, Canada, having served in this capacity since December 14, 2006. The grandson of Ukrainian immigrants, Stelmach was born and raised on a farm near Lamont and speaks fluent Ukrainian.

Masdar and the Canadian province of Alberta have agreed to cooperate on carbon capture and storage (C.C.S.) initiatives to advance energy research and innovation.The Ministry of Energy of Alberta and Masdar signed a memorandum of understanding during the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi this week where Premier Ed Stelmach was a panelist.

On Thursday, Alberta's Conservative Premier Ed Stelmach told reporters the provincial government wouldn't donate a nickel of its lush, oil-and-gas royalty enriched treasury stash to aid in Haitian relief efforts. His stinginess was roundly booed across the political spectrum and by Friday, the premier said Alberta would donate $500K, chump change.

Premier Ed Stelmach and Energy Minister Mel Knight announced grants to Swan Hills Synfuels, for a $1.5 B in situ coal gasification project using up the rest of the $2B Alberta fund. $495 M fund construction of a 240-kilometre pipeline for collecting and storing CO2. Ottawa is funding $865 M for the Shell Quest project, and $774 M for TransAlta CCS.
